Interview: Gina Myung, PR Associate; Wishcompany

1. What is your job title at Wishcompany and what are your responsibilities?

I am the PR Associate at Wishcompany - I do my best to create and maintain relationships with other companies and individuals, and ensure that Wishcompany is better understood by their audience through creating a bridge of communication. As PR requires extensive knowledge of both the internal and external workings of an entity, I work in numerous aspects of the company, with some of my main tasks being content creation, social media monitoring, and editor/influencer outreach.

2. What is the one major difference between most Western skincare products and most Korean skincare products?

One major difference I’ve personally noticed between Western and Korean skincare products, is that Korean brands and consumers have a greater emphasis on the focus ingredients of a formula. For example, natural ingredients like animal-based snail mucin and horse oil (strangely enough), and plant-based Guaiazulene and centella extract are making their way into the center of the K-beauty industry.

3. What is your skin type (sensitive, oily, dry, combination, acne prone)?

I’ve been dealing with the difficulties of having combination, slightly acne-prone skin since I was a teenager.

4. What skincare products are you currently using personally?

Right now, I don’t have a heavy skincare regimen contrary to the whole “10-step Korean skincare routine” fad. My morning and night routines are the same, and they consist of a light double-cleansing with the Bifesta Bright-up Makeup Cleansing Wipes and the Klairs Be Natural Facial Soap, exfoliation when needed with the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Scrub followed up by the Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner and Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum, finished with the Kiehls Ultra Facial Moisturizer.

5. What is your favorite 3 things to do to reduce stress?

Most of the times when I get stressed, I like to enjoy time to myself, mostly by catching up with good TV shows, movies and music. A conversation with friends and family also helps to get any weight off my chest, and I’ll always appreciate a sweet treat.

6. This question is for people who are super busy and don't have time to do the 7 steps in Korean skincare routine. If they are pressed for time what steps should they not skip?

I’ve always believed that skincare shouldn’t have to be extensive or feel like a chore to do. Aside from cleansing, which can be one or two steps depending on whether you wear makeup or not, the three pillars of skincare - toner, serum and moisturizer - can’t ever be forgotten no matter how busy you are! In short, always make sure to cleanse the face and follow up with the essentials needed to add back necessary moisture and nutrients.

7. Do you listen to Kpop? If not what kind of music do you listen to?

K-Pop has always been a big part of my life. Thanks to my parents, I love Korean music from the 80s and 90s, and have seen it evolve into the great cultural movement it is today. Aside from K-Pop, I would say I like to listen to any song that’s charting at the moment, and the occasional EDM.

8. Who is your Kpop bias or favorite musical artist (if you don't listen to Kpop).

I really admire SHINee’s Jonghyun. While he is part of a popular idol group, and therefore carries the usual idol charm, he also has his own musical sound and has proven himself to be a respectable, versatile musician as seen in the plethora of successful self-composed songs featured in his solo discography and numerous collaborations.

9. If you could have any superpower what would it be?

I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of time travel. It’s a power that comes with great responsibility, but also holds much opportunity for the user. It can encompass anything from saving face by preventing an embarrassing moment, to saving a life.

Interview: Ryan Soungho Park, CEO;

Wishcompany

1. Which skincare products is best for oily skin, sensitive skin, combination skin, dry skin, and acne prone skin?

I personally have oily, sensitive skin and currently use these products in my own routine during the hot summer months, and recommend them to anyone with the same skin type as me. For the day, I use the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner + Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum + Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream (as a spot treatment) + Klairs Mid-day Blue Sun Lotion + Klairs Mochi BB Cushion pact. The skin can get more sensitive during the day, so I recommend you lightly apply toner with gentle tapping motions, and apply a simple serum on top along with a soothing cream like the Midnight Blue Calming Cream on necessary areas. For night, I recommend the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner + Klairs Toner Mate 2-in-1 Cotton Pads + Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum + Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop + Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream (spread more across the face). I also suggest you use a cotton pad to get rid of oil, sebum, dead skin cells, and any remains of the sun lotion. Remaining waste can be gently removed with the Vitamin serum. On days that are especially hot, I recommend you use a soothing sheet mask before you apply your serum. The same recommendations go for those with acne-prone and combination skin. As for those with dry skin, the only difference in my recommendation would be the addition of the Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream in the step following the serum, in order to lock in moisture.

2. What are your top five popular makeup items sold?

Our top five popular makeup items sold are the Klairs Supple Illuminating Blemish Cream, Klairs Creamy & Natural Fit Concealer, Klairs Mochi BB Cushion Pact, Chica y Chico Matt Cushion and the By Wishtrend Eyelash Curling Iron.

3. Do you plan on expanding your shade collection especially for your locations in the USA and the UK for people with deeper skin tones?

We aren’t currently thinking about diversifying our shades, but we plan to do so slowly in the near future. In this moment, we are now focusing on creating different makeup products that are suitable for various skin types.

4. Do you have any recommendations for hair care products?

The Jungle Botanics Forest Leaves Cooling Shampoo is great for the current summer season.

5. What are some challenges of being a CEO?

The whole experience is always a challenge, and the challenges grow along with the increase in size and success of our company. This is why every day, I am always trying my best to tackle these challenges in the best possible way.

6. What are some rewards that come with being a CEO?

The biggest reward of being a CEO is working with wonderful people, and creating our own culture together. Although we aren’t a perfect company yet, I am alway listening to the voices of my employees and customers so that we can continue to improve.
